River Ness Hotel, Inverness

A couple of years ago we stayed in a large, dodgy hotel in Inverness, but noticed the River Ness Hotel and thought if we were coming back, we should stay there. Well, we recently did just that.

It was definitely an improvement in every regard, and we’d recommend it; booked early enough, it was quite reasonably priced. Although a franchise, it appears to be run by a local family, which we liked.

The room’s cludgie was pretty good.

A cludgie to the left of the photo, and a shower cubicle to the right; the wall is a mottled pattern of grey/brown.
Pleasant colour scheme and patterns …
A photo of a bathroom sink, with a mirror above it; the mottled grey/brown pattern on the walls is continued from the previous photo.
… with a design that felt quite spacious.

Motel One, München / Munich East-Side, part 2

We already have a short posting about the rooms in the Motel One München East-Side that we stayed in when in München / Munich, but we wanted to add a photo of the cludgie in the downstairs public bar. The facilities were particularly noteworthy for the sinks, which we really like with their clear lines (and yes, we note this is brown too, but it works here).

A view of a long white sink with soft lights to the right, and a mirror on the wall behind the sink. The walls look as if they are made of many small tiles in different brown shades.
We know the wall isn’t really made up of lots of tiny tiles that someone has put on the wall individually, but we like the effect of the wall and the muted lighting.

Motel One, München / Munich East-Side, part 1

Motel One is a hotel chain from Germany, and we recently stayed in the München East-Side (Munich) one for a few days; it is well-located, near the Ostbahnhof. We have stayed in Motel One hotels before, but this was, we think, one of the older ones, as the room was more… err… compact than e.g. the one we stayed in a few years ago in Amsterdam where the room was really spacious (for work we’ve also stayed in one in Manchester, which was similarly generous).

The cludgie was also more compact, but perfectly adequate, and – as we recall – of a similar design, with clear lines, and mirrors that give the impression of far more space than there actually is.

View onto a sink in the foreground, and a shower behind. There is a large mirror reflecting the back wall, including a mirror on the back wall.
The sink and shower – note the mirror that reflects the mirror above the cludgie itself, making the small bathroom appear much larger.
A toilet to the left of the frame, with a mirror above it reflecting into the mirror above the sink; the shower tray is in the background.
The cludgie itself, with the mirror above reflecting into the mirror above the sink; the large shower tray is at the back.
